Young Strategic Leaders Forum
Professional Development and Training Program


The Kokoda Foundation would like to extend the opportunity for organisations to partner in the Young Strategic Leaders Forum (YSLF) Professional Development program.

The aims of the Program are to:

  • Help build the professional expertise and experience of young people in the national security field
  • Provide exclusive and unique opportunities to learn from the most senior officials in the national security community
  • Strengthen personal linkages between young strategic professionals and senior serving or recently retired officials.
  • Encourage personal networking across the national security community
  • Foster the development of a stronger esprit de corps and sense of professional belonging amongst young people across the Australian national security community.

A 12 month program of Professional Development for Young national security professionals

  • Unique opportunity to develop inter departmental networks for long term career networks and relationships

  • Ability to increase understanding of the roles, agencies and activities occurring in the national security community

The Program includes:

  • Executive Business Breakfasts – intimate mentoring and career development forum with senior officials
  • Exclusive Closed Workshop – customized designed program on national security topics/issues
  • Complimentary attendance at the highly successful YSLF weekend Congresses – two per year
  • Guaranteed access to monthly seminars on national security issues
  • Invitation to participate in the Security Challenges Young Strategic Writers Competition
  • Membership of the Foundation which includes complimentary copies of the quarterly Security Challenges publication and all Kokoda Papers.
  • Subject to individual security clearances opportunity to attend other Kokoda activities /closed workshops

Program Fee:

$5,000 per participant – maximum of 10 per year.

Participant Benefits:

  • Complimentary Invitation to all YSLF functions/activities for a full 12 month period
  • Membership of and access to all member only benefits of the Kokoda Foundation for the 12 month period
  • Tailored designed briefings and workshop to address participant’s knowledge and experience base

Supervisor’s Benefits:

  • Complimentary invitation to attend activities as an observer and/or mentor to staff participating in the program for a full 12 month period
  • Membership of and access to all member only benefits of the Kokoda Foundation for a 12 month period
  • Regular engagement from Kokoda Management team to ensure program is meeting professional development objectives

Department Benefits:

  • Partner status for all activities associated with the YSLF Program - This includes logo representation on all marketing material and the Kokoda website
  • Opportunity for promotion of a dedicated professional development program for young national security professionals with the Agency
